Coffee FAQ | Fresh-Roasted Specialty Coffee Questions

Expert answers about our fresh-roasted specialty coffee, brewing methods, ethical sourcing, and shipping. Everything you need to know about Coffee Bop beans, from roasting to brewing.

About Our Coffee

Where and when are Coffee Bop beans roasted?

All Coffee Bop beans are roasted in California within 24 hours of your order. We don't warehouse pre-roasted beans—we roast specifically for your order, ensuring peak flavor. Delivery typically takes 3-5 days.

How does Coffee Bop ensure ethical sourcing?

We maintain direct-trade relationships with small farms in Bali, Ethiopia, Mexico, and Honduras, paying 30-50% above commodity rates. Our sourcing prioritizes sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and fair labor standards. Learn more about our sourcing.

What makes Coffee Bop beans fresher than grocery store coffee?

Three key differences:

  • Roasted-to-order: We roast only after receiving your order.
  • Shipped within 24 hours: No warehouse or retail shelf time.
  • One-way degassing valves: Our packaging releases CO2 while preventing oxygen exposure.

Most grocery store beans are 3-6 months old. Coffee Bop beans are typically 3-5 days old when you brew your first cup.

Does Coffee Bop offer decaf coffee?

No, we exclusively offer caffeinated specialty coffee. Decaffeination processes alter flavor compounds and diminish the distinctive characteristics of our single-origin beans.

Brewing & Storage

What brewing parameters maximize flavor?

For optimal extraction:

  • Grind fresh using a burr grinder
  • Water temperature: 195-205°F (90-96°C)
  • Coffee-to-water ratio: 1:16 (18g coffee to 288g water)
  • Use filtered water free from chlorine

Pour-over methods enhance clarity and brightness, while French press emphasizes body and richness. Our Ethiopia Natural excels with pour-over, while Bali works beautifully for espresso.

Are Coffee Bop beans good for espresso?

Yes, our medium-dark beans are specifically developed for balanced espresso extraction. For best results, use a 1:2 brew ratio (18g coffee to 36g liquid), extracted in 25-30 seconds at 9 bars of pressure. Our Honduras and Bali beans excel in espresso applications.

How should I store coffee beans?

To maintain peak flavor:

  • Store in an airtight container with a one-way valve
  • Keep at room temperature (65-75°F) away from heat
  • Avoid refrigeration which causes condensation
  • Grind only before brewing to minimize oxidation
  • Consume within 2-3 weeks of the roast date

Ordering & Shipping

Does Coffee Bop ship internationally?

Currently, we ship exclusively within the United States to ensure beans arrive at peak freshness. International shipping times would compromise our quality standards.

What is the timeline from roasting to delivery?

Our process:

  1. Beans are roasted within 24 hours of your order
  2. After roasting, beans rest 12-24 hours to release CO2
  3. Packages are sealed and shipped immediately
  4. Delivery occurs 2-4 days after roasting

Your beans arrive during their peak flavor window (3-10 days post-roast).

How can I modify my subscription?

Manage your subscription through your account dashboard to change delivery frequency, swap beans, adjust quantity, pause deliveries, or update shipping info. Changes made 48 hours before your next roast date will apply to your upcoming shipment. No cancellation fees.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept:

  • Major credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
  • Digital wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay
  • PayPal: For additional purchase protection
